What is it

Shaker Baghouse — Mechanical Cleaning Without Compressed Air

GPC's Shaker dust collector (or mechanical shaker baghouse) is another type of fabric filter dust collection system, but instead of using air to clean the bags, it uses mechanical shaking to remove the dust.

Dirty air flows into the collector and passes through fabric filter bags (usually supported by cages). Dust collects on the surface of the bags forming a cake, and clean air exits through the outside of the bags.

Airflow is stopped or isolated and a mechanical system (motor + cam/shaft) shakes the bags. The shaking motion dislodges the dust cake, and the dust falls into the hopper.

Operating Principle

How the Shaker Cleaning Cycle Works

The shaker baghouse uses a proven mechanical process — gentle vibration dislodges dust cake from woven bags without the need for compressed air or high-pressure pulses.

01
Dust-laden air enters the baghouse
Contaminated air is drawn into the baghouse inlet plenum. The dirty gas is distributed evenly across all filter bags within the housing.
02
Dust collects on the inside bag surface
Air flows from inside the woven fabric bag outward. Dust particles are captured on the interior surface of the bag, building a dust cake that aids further filtration.
03
Compartment is isolated for cleaning
When pressure differential or a timed signal indicates bag loading, that compartment is isolated from the main airflow by closing inlet and outlet dampers — allowing offline cleaning.
04
Shaker mechanism activates
A motor-driven eccentric or linkage mechanism shakes the top of the bags in a rapid back-and-forth or up-and-down motion, applying gentle mechanical vibration through the fabric.
05
Vibration dislodges the dust cake
The mechanical shaking causes the bag to flex and snap, fracturing and releasing the accumulated dust cake from the fabric surface without damaging the bag fibres.
06
Dust falls to hopper — compartment returns to service
Dislodged dust settles into the hopper for collection and discharge. The compartment dampers re-open, returning the cleaned bags to active filtration while the next compartment is serviced.

Applications

Industries Served

Shaker baghouses are the preferred choice where moderate dust loads, hygroscopic dusts, or limited compressed air supply make pulse-jet systems impractical.

Grain & Feed
Capturing fine grain dust and chaff from handling, milling and storage operations.
Woodworking
Wood dust and sawdust extraction from sawmills, joinery, and furniture manufacturing.
Cement & Lime
Controlling fine cement and lime dust in low-humidity processing environments.
Chemical Processing
Handling hygroscopic and mildly sticky chemical powders where gentle cleaning is critical.
Pharmaceutical
Collecting fine API and excipient dusts with minimal bag stress and long service life.
Food Processing
Dust control for flour, sugar, spice and starch handling with food-grade fabric options.
Powder Handling
Containing fine powders and bulk material dust at transfer and packaging points.
